Membership

+ Who should apply to Reforge?

We welcome experienced product management, marketing, engineering, and other tech professionals to apply to our worldwide community of operators. If you’re working to solve critical business problems and unlock extraordinary growth for your companies and careers, we think you’ll tap into the most value Reforge has to offer.

You can access the Reforge platform from anywhere in the world, and all our events are live-streamed to remove geographic barriers to participation. While we do not restrict applications by location, our content and live programs are currently available in English only and provide closed captioning.

+ Who should reconsider applying to Reforge?

We value your time and resources, and our programs and content are designed specifically to drive meaningful impact. We narrowly focus on supporting tech professionals building and growing digital products. We do look at all appeals that come our way, so feel free to write to us at hello@reforge.com if you believe the decision is incorrect or deserves a second look.

Reforge is unlikely to be the right investment if you’re:

  • An educator, VC, sales professional, or independent contractor. Reforge is intended for product managers, marketers, designers, engineers, and other collaborative roles within companies that build and grow digital products. The challenges we focus on are specific to these roles, so Reforge content will have lower relevancy for professionals that fall outside this scope.
  • Seeking easy hacks or tricks. Unlocking extraordinary growth for your company and your career takes hard work and ongoing effort. We offer proven frameworks and long-term strategies you can put into practice—not shortcuts.
  • A professional at a pre product-market fit company. If the product you're working on is just getting started, Reforge won't deliver the most value to you at this stage. Reforge is best suited to those working on products that have signals of product-market fit.

+ How much does Reforge membership cost?

An individual Reforge membership costs $1,995 USD per year. If your company is interested in a multiple-seat subscription, please contact hello@reforge.com and check out our Reforge for Teams page here.

+ What do I get with my membership?

Reforge is an all-in-one membership that includes:

  • Live program participation. Learn directly from the operators making an impact at the top companies in tech. Each intensive program is designed to help you level up in a short timeframe and expand your network via real-world use cases and frameworks.
  • Unlimited access to the entire collection of Reforge content. Members can navigate through all of the programs Reforge has to offer on their own schedule.
  • Live events led by Reforge Partners. These in-depth, virtual events offer coaching and examinations of important topics by Reforge Partners and industry experts.
  • A global community of experts and peers. Join our network of tech practitioners from leading tech companies tackling similar problems to the ones you face. Ask questions, trade insights, and share your own perspective.

+ How many cohorts are included with an annual membership?

There are 3 cohorts available each year. Members have the opportunity to participate in one live program in each cohort, but we cannot guarantee that the cohort schedules will line up exactly with the timeframe of your annual membership in order to participate in 3 full cohorts.

+ What is the Reforge application process?

We value every single application we receive at Reforge and guarantee a response from our membership team. Once your application is submitted, you will receive a confirmation email and our team will queue your application for review. Our membership team will then review your application by hand in the order that it was received. We receive thousands of applications so we appreciate your patience as this step can take some time. Once our team has reached an admission decision, you will be notified via email. If you are admitted, you will then need to complete payment in order to confirm and activate your membership. You can check your application status at any time by visiting your dashboard.

+ What criteria do you look for in members?

We screen applicants for the following 3 criteria:

  • Digital product-related role. Because our community focuses on solving common problems related to growing digital products, we prioritize applicants from the functions most likely to be actively tackling those problems currently. This includes product management, marketing, engineering, design, analytics, strategic finance, and other roles.
  • Company relevance. We prioritize applicants in tech companies that are post-product market fit. While we hope to expand our community in the future, we do not currently serve early-stage startups and non-digital business models.
  • Demonstrated strong initiative: First and foremost, Reforge is a community of contributors, but you don't have to be an expert to join. To get the most out of our cohorts, we encourage participants to ask questions, engage with others, volunteer ideas, and share insights. We require that those in marketing roles have a couple of years of relevant experience; but those in product, engineering, and design roles can be early in their careers.

+ How do I contact Reforge?

Email is the best way to contact us, and we’d love to hear from you. Reach out to our team at hello@reforge.com and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.

Cohort Experience

+ I’m registered for a cohort. How do I select a live program?

Once you register for a cohort, we’ll notify you by email when it’s time for you to enroll. You can select the live program of your choice in your dashboard. Each live program is 4 or 6 weeks in length, featuring a weekly live event hosted by your Executive In Residence.

+ How can I be notified of the latest Reforge live programs?

We'd love to keep you in the loop. Sign up to be notified when new live programs or future cohorts are announced. You can also follow us on LinkedIn and Twitter for the latest updates.

+ Does Reforge have in-person events?

At this time, no, Reforge experiences are completely virtual.

+ Can I join more than one live program at a time?

No. Logistically, it’s too complex to take more than one live program during any given cohort and we want to ensure you get the most out of this life-changing experience. Our team works to extract the real-world insights you can’t find anywhere else and distill them into our intensive, 4 or 6 week-long program format. Due to the time commitment that participation requires and the fact that live sessions may run at concurrent times, you may only join one program at a time.

+ How much time should I plan to devote to a live program each week?

To get the most out of the program, you should expect to spend 2 - 5 hours per week on program content plus a 90-minutes for each week's live event. Our most successful participants spend 8 - 10 hours per week during the cohort.

+ How many members can attend each live program?

We do not limit the number of participants in our live programs.

+ Can I participate in a live program if I am not a Reforge member?

No. Live programs are only available to Reforge Members.

+ What is the format for Reforge live programs?

Programs are entirely virtual and consist of self-paced reading and video material as well as live online events.

+ What is the difference between live programs and self-paced programs?

Our live programs offer the opportunity to attend events and interact with other members participating in the same program within a cohort. While the program content is the same that is offered in a self-paced format, you will have the opportunity to interact with Executives in Residence and experts in the field throughout the cohort. Check out a more in-depth explanation of the difference between our offerings here.

+ When do the live events for live programs take place?

Live interactive sessions will take place once a week. Most programs offer live events during two time slots to accommodate members in various time zones. If you're unable to join a scheduled live event for any reason, all recordings are recorded for you to review asynchronously.

+ How do I attend a live program?

Our programs are entirely virtual and you can attend from anywhere in the world. If you are unable to join any of the live sessions of a program, the recordings will be available on your Reforge

+ I missed a live event this week. Are live events available to watch on demand?

Yes, all live program events are recorded. Both videos and transcriptions are uploaded to the event page under the “Replays” tab within 72 hours of the event end.

+ I'm enrolled in a live program, but I won't be able to attend the program events because of my timezone. What do you recommend I do to keep up?

Live events are scheduled to start at 8:30 am PT. Some programs offer a second live event opportunity starting at 5:00 pm PT. Each event is 90 minutes in duration. We’ve chosen time slots that work best for the majority of members, including EMEA and APAC participants.

We understand that the event schedule will not work for everyone and have designed all programs to be easily reviewed asynchronously. If you’re not able to join during a scheduled event, all sessions are recorded.

Other helpful resources are the community and online discussion forums, which provide global time zone coverage. We have a large number of members who participate asynchronously and find, via the Slack community, members in their time zones to work through programs with.

+ What should I do if I fall behind on my weekly program material?

If you weren’t able to follow your live program’s scheduled weekly module, we get it. Life happens! There’s still time to get the most out of your program. Our programs are designed to be navigated self-paced as well as live, so you can catch up at your own pace. The material builds on itself, so we don’t recommend skipping ahead. Complete the course material for each week in the order it was scheduled, then watch that week’s recorded live event before moving on. You can access all recorded live events via your dashboard. Select the Event tab and select Replays, then select your desired event. Please note the recordings may not appear until 72 hours following the event.

+ Should I still attend the event if I haven’t completed my weekly material?

Yes. Even if you haven't worked through all of the material for that week, you'll still learn plenty from the live event. Check out the module recap video prior to the event shared via Slack and email; it will give you a good sense of what’s to come and help you better participate in the event.

+ Where should I ask questions about program content?

We offer a number of resources for members to dive deeper into our program content. Discussions is the best place to go with an in-depth question and to discuss program material; you’ll receive responses from our program development team, EIRs, other members, and more. If you’re looking to discuss the content with other Reforge members, head to your program’s Slack channel during the cohort. We also highly recommend bringing your questions to weekly live program events. This is a great place to get clarification and interact with both EIRs and your peers directly.

Reforge Content

+ How does Reforge create its programs?

The process of creating Reforge programs is rigorous. Over the course of a year, we work alongside leaders from only the most impactful tech companies to create each new live program, distilling decades of career experience and insights into our proprietary format. We then work across our vast Partner network to identify and create additional case studies for different sectors (B2B, B2C, etc.) to ensure the material is relevant for all participants.

+ Which program is right for me?

We recommend that you select the program that best matches your experience, the current problem you are trying to solve, and your company's growth challenges. No program is a prerequisite for any other, so choose what is most relevant to your circumstances.

Reforge programs work for individuals that are:

  • In a specific job category. Our function-specific programs are built to help those looking to tackle problems specific to those categories.
  • In roles that collaborate closely with a specific job category. Our function-specific programs are also built to deliver value to those whose roles require close collaboration with those categories.
    • Example: An engineering manager would take Product Strategy because they frequently contribute to product strategy development, or a Growth PM might opt to take Marketing Strategy, as their role demands close collaboration with the marketing team to oversee specific marketing activities.
  • Looking to optimize for cross-functional growth. Since Growth requires broad collaboration across roles, teams, and departments, we encourage all Reforge members to consider joining one of these programs. They're intended for anyone working on growing and monetizing digital products.
  • Senior professionals looking to strengthen their leadership skillset. For those who are transitioning from IC to manager roles, or above, we offer more specific programs that help leaders address today's strategic challenges.

+ How advanced is Reforge content?

We believe the better question to ask is: "How relevant is Reforge content?" There are no shortcuts to increasing your impact and doing your best work. Reforge content delivers the most value when it is relevant to the challenges you're facing in your career. Whether you're switching career focus, looking to make the leap from IC to a leadership role, or simply looking to go deeper on your own job function, we believe Reforge delivers value to those committed to doing the work and investing their time in learning something new. We assume you understand your field, and we're committed to taking you beyond easy tricks, hacks, and stop-gap solutions that ultimately won't help you advance long-term.

+ Can I expect to learn about both B2B and B2C business models?

Absolutely. We intentionally source Reforge Partners from a variety of business models across B2B, B2C, and even marketplaces.

Note that Reforge focuses on solving common problems related to product-driven growth so there are some business models we do not cover. Examples include:

  • Enterprise B2B companies that focuses on selling six-and-seven-figure contracts via a direct sales force
  • Enterprise B2B hardware
  • Offline B2C models that primarily sell through brick-and-mortar stores or physical retailers

+ Couldn't I find this material online for free?

The leaders in our Partner network have spent decades leading the world's fastest-growing companies and solving the challenges teams in tech face today. The problems we address aren't ones you can google your way out of. You will learn the actionable strategies and techniques these leaders have not only employed to create impact but in many instances created from the ground up. In addition to the content you'll unlock for your live programs, you'll also gain access to our entire content library, filled with insights and use cases you can't find anywhere else.

Program FAQs

+ Are any programs a prerequisite for others?

No, and we believe you’ll find immediate value in our programs, no matter which you choose to take first. We know career development doesn’t take place in a straight line, which is why we designed our programs to help you solve the challenges you face today. If you’re new to Reforge, we recommend starting with our popular Growth Series, but it’s not a prerequisite. Whether you’re looking to nail down the foundations of a specific function or become more strategic, transitioning from an IC to a leader, or wanting to dive deeper into a specific subject, we offer a range of programs to help you make an impact in your role and at your company.

CROSS-FUNCTIONAL GROWTH PROGRAMS

+ I’m trying to decide between Growth Series and Advanced Growth Strategy. Which is the right program for me?

Growth Series is a great place to start if you’re new to growth, responsible for a lot of different parts of the growth system, or trying to choose where to prioritize within your growth strategy. Growth Series is our most popular first program and a great way to understand the many pieces of growth and decide where you want to dive into next.

Advanced Growth Strategy is best for those who are building a growth model and would like a more quantitative understanding of growth. A common misconception is that Advanced Growth Strategy is the best program for individuals who are in more senior roles. However, the upleveled aspect of this program is its focus on building a growth model. You do not have to take Growth Series before Advanced Growth Strategy.

No matter where you are in your career, you will find value from each program.

+ What is the difference between Retention & Engagement and Growth Series? Should I take one before the other?

Growth Series is a great program to start with if you own a wide range of work across the growth model. If you are focused on improving retention, engagement, activation, or resurrection, then take Retention & Engagement. While it isn’t a requirement to take Growth Series first, we recommend it if you want a broader foundation of growth, including retention and engagement.

Retention & Engagement goes deeper into retention inputs: How to measure them, what retention should look like for a product like yours, and different strategies and tactics to improve retention. It’s a deeper discussion of one of the key topics introduced in the Growth Series. We recommend product managers and marketers to take this program because strong retention is the engine of success for any growth model.

+ How are Monetization & Pricing and Growth Series different from one another?

Monetization & Pricing dives deep into how to measure, test, and drive increased monetization for your business. Learn how to measure the right inputs, make better-informed packaging and pricing decisions, and discover ways to optimize revenue conversion, expansion, and resurrection.

This program is a deeper exploration of the topics introduced in Growth Series. If you own a wide range of work across the growth model, Growth Series is a great program to start with. If you are focused on improving revenue via pricing and packaging decisions, or if you are looking to enhance the optimization and testing of your payment journeys, we recommend you take Monetization & Pricing.

Experimentation & Testing focuses on creating and executing a strategic experimentation system. It goes deep into the challenges individuals face when they need to set up an experiment culture on their teams, think through prioritization, and see what good looks like.

Data for Product Managers focuses almost entirely on how to build a repeatable process for using quantitative data to deliver product outcomes. Some of this data may come from experimentation, but not exclusively so. Product managers who want to become more data-driven and have access to data should take this program.

+ How are the growth programs, like Growth Marketing or Growth Series, different from each other?

Growth Series and Advanced Growth Strategy cover frameworks and tools that are relevant for all growth practitioners, whether they have more functional experience in marketing, product, or engineering projects.

The Growth Marketing program goes deep into the problems marketers tackle specifically, like optimizing paid media, measuring performance of their marketing portfolio, and developing lifecycle strategies.

If you’re new to growth frameworks, the Growth Series gives a broad overview. Growth marketers tackling marketing-specific challenges should take the Growth Marketing program.

PRODUCT PROGRAMS

+ Do I need to take Product Management Foundations before Mastering Product Management?

Your experience as a product manager will be the main factor in deciding which program to take.

If you are interested in a career in product management or are early in your product management career, Product Management Foundations is a great program to level set the foundational skills of product managers and understand what it means to be a strong product manager. Very few companies have great PM training programs, and Product Management Foundations provides members with the basis to excel in a career as a product manager. It covers topics including feature opportunity validation, design, development, launch, and iteration.

If you already have experience as a product manager, Mastering Product Management is the opportunity to refine your skills. This program covers the specific rituals, skills, and deliverables that effective PMs utilize. You’ll learn how to increase your impact and execute on key deliverables like roadmaps, OKRs, product specs, and dashboards.

+ I completed Product Management Foundations. Should I take Product Strategy or Mastering Product Management next?

Product Strategy and Mastering Product Management are both excellent programs that will bolster your product management skills. However, the best fit for you largely depends on the type of work you're doing.

If you’re in a product leader role with responsibilities like managing a large product area, Product Strategy would potentially be the better immediate fit for you right now. You'll learn frameworks for managing a portfolio of product work, including the critical difference in evaluating features versus products, growth strategy for existing features, expanding your product management foundations, and effectively managing scale.

If you are a product manager working as an individual contributor, Mastering Product Management is most likely the better immediate fit. You’ll learn how to increase your impact and execute on key Product Management deliverables like roadmaps, OKRs, product specs, and dashboards.

+ What’s the difference between Product Leadership and Product Strategy? How do I know which one is right for me?

Product Leadership and Product Strategy are excellent programs for newly promoted product leaders or senior product managers looking to make the jump to product leadership. Before you get started, let’s dig into the focus of each program and how they differ.

Product Leadership is all about taking a systems-thinking approach to the managerial, organizational, and people aspects of being a product leader. We discuss how to evaluate and coach the product managers on your team, design your organization for maximum effectiveness, plan and execute job shifts that accelerate your career progress, and manage changes as you move into product leadership.

Product Strategy covers building and communicating a cohesive product strategy across multiple pillars of product work. We take a portfolio approach to show you how to build your product strategy and discuss strategic decisions across features, growth, product-market-fit expansion, and scaling.

+ How should I choose between User Insights for Product Decisions and Data for Product Managers?

Data for Product Managers focuses on how to build a repeatable process for using quantitative data to deliver product outcomes.

User Insights for Product Decisions covers planning and executing qualitative research, giving you the opportunity to build a deep understanding of your users and use that information to inform product decisions.

+ How should I choose among Finding Product/Market Fit, Product Strategy, and Mastering Product Management?

Finding Product/Market Fit helps product builders (as part of a founding team or a 0 to 1 initiative within a larger company) define a strategy to achieve product/market fit. This program is best suited for those working on products who do not yet have product/market fit.

Product Strategy will help you understand the tradeoffs and decisions you should make around a feature set, and is ideal if you are optimizing the product strategy for a product that already has product/market fit.

If you are working on a specific feature of an established product, you should consider taking Mastering Product Management.

+ How should I choose between Finding Product/Market Fit and Scaling Product Delivery?

Finding Product/Market Fit focuses on systems that help you get to product/market fit and find your first growth loop. This program is ideal if you’re working on product/market fit expansion.

Scaling Product Delivery focuses on building the execution muscle to validate, invest in, develop, and launch new bets at scale. This program may be a better fit for you if you are at a later stage company expanding product/market fit or at a later organization.

MARKETING PROGRAMS

+ What are the updates to Marketing Strategy? Should I take it again?

When Marketing Strategy was created, we focused on the challenges marketers face as they go from owning one channel to a portfolio of many. We decided the program needed a broader scope of the complex relationship between a suite of marketing domains: Brand, Product, and Growth Marketing. In the revamped version, you'll learn how this triad drives compounding growth for your organization. You'll also explore how to define and execute strategies in all three domains.

If you completed Marketing Strategy prior to our 2022 Spring Cohort, we recommend taking this program instead of Growth Marketing. We think you’ll find the revamped program offers tons of value and insights thanks to the big changes we’ve made.

+ Should I take Marketing Strategy or Growth Marketing?

Marketing Strategy focuses on the complex relationship between a suite of marketing domains: Brand, Product, and Growth Marketing. In this program, you’ll learn how this triad drives compounding growth for your organization. You’ll also explore how to define and execute strategies in all three domains.

Growth Marketing explores the challenges marketers face as they go from managing one channel to a portfolio of many and includes many of the frameworks from pre-2022 Marketing Strategy.

We recommend that members who took the Marketing Strategy program prior to our 2022 Spring Cohort take the revamped Marketing Strategy program instead of Growth Marketing.

+ Should I take the Marketing Leadership or Marketing Strategy program?

Both programs focus on the skills you need to be a successful marketing leader. If you want to learn about the people and organizational management aspects of being a marketing leader, you should take Marketing Leadership. If you want to learn about how to build a marketing strategy across all different types of marketing, you should take Marketing Strategy.

The Marketing Leadership program is focused on the managerial, organizational, and people aspects of being a marketing leader. You’ll learn how to prioritize work, manage finances, structure and build your organization, and develop your talent. This program can be relevant for any people manager, first-time or experienced.

The Marketing Strategy program is all about rounding out your specific domain experience by developing an understanding of all marketing domains: brand, product, and growth marketing. You’ll learn how to create strategies in each domain and how to allocate investment and conduct strategic planning across them.

Engineering Programs

+ What are the differences between Technical Strategy and Engineering Management?

Simply put, Technical Strategy is a strategic program that discusses what you should be building as part of your overall strategy, while Engineering Management is focused on how to manage the team, the workflow, and other aspects.

+ As an engineer, I’m trying to decide between Technical Strategy and Scaling Product Delivery. What’s the difference between the two?

Technical Strategy is a broad strategy program created specifically for engineers.

Scaling Product Delivery is more focused and tactical. You’ll learn how to choose the right bets, set up your team to deliver on new ideas, and “ship” a new product. If you’re an engineer or product manager who works on product management foundation or innovative product bets, we recommend Scaling Product Delivery.

+ If I’m an engineer, are there only 3 programs for me?

Not at all! Below are a few additional programs that may be relevant:

  • Product Management Foundations: We see many engineers enroll in Product Management Foundations, usually for two main reasons. Some are interested in understanding the basics of product management as a PM would learn them in order to establish empathy and share a common language with their PM counterparts (present and future). Others might be considering a move of their own from engineering to a Product role and use this program as a preview of what that path might look like for them.
  • Product Strategy: For a deeper look into the Product side, engineers have found value in the Product Strategy program which can help the engineer understand some of the ‘why’s’ behind what ends up on their team’s roadmap. In understanding the broader strategic questions that go into building a product strategy, engineers can also begin to gauge where their perspective can be most valuable in forming the longer view.
  • Growth Series: We find that engineers can become even more effective and impactful when they have a deep understanding of the business model, and can therefore connect their work to what propels the company. Growth Series provides you with the frameworks and strategies to think about how your company should effectively scale.
  • Finding Product/Market Fit: We believe the entire core founding team of a product can get value from this program, which helps you design a strategy to achieve Product Market Fit. Because each founding team member works so closely with the others, it is helpful for the entire team to have a shared approach. If you are not a core founding team member, this content is likely not applicable or relevant to your day-to-day work.

To reactivate your account, log into your Reforge dashboard and follow the steps to reactivate in the “Subscriptions” section of the billing and payment section of your account dashboard.

+ Can I transfer my membership to someone else before it expires?

Individual Reforge memberships are non-transferrable. If you are a plan manager of a Team at Reforge and would like to assign a seat to a different team member, you can do so in your account settings under “Manage Seats.”

Alumni

+ What has changed?

Customers prior to December 2020 that purchased an individual program will no longer be able to access that program's material or the Reforge forums starting October 3rd, 2021. To maintain access, receive updates, and access all programs you may join as a Member. If you decide not to join as a Member you will still receive content from the Reforge blog and be invited to events open to guests of Reforge Members.

+ Why was this change made?

We transitioned to a membership model because we wanted to offer unlimited program material access, cohort participation, unrivaled content, and more to our members.

We believe a membership approach to professional development yields better results and leaves you with more tools, a stronger community, and a bigger advantage in your career. We hope you will join as a member.
